What are the main ways to get a plumbing website?
There are four routes. Here they are side by side.
| Route | Typical cost | You get | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY website builder | Monthly subscription; prices vary by plan and location | Templates you edit yourself | Your time, and sites that look like everyone else's |
| Trade website rental | £30 to £85 a month in the examples below | A template site built and hosted for you | Who owns the site, minimum term, total cost over years |
| Freelancer | Varies widely, ask for a fixed quote | A custom or semi-custom site | Support if they move on, and who controls hosting |
| Specialist agency | One-off build, often plus monthly care | A site planned around enquiries, services and areas | Make sure the quote is fixed and in writing |
We give our own prices further down, and real examples for the rental route below. We haven't quoted figures for DIY builders or freelancers, because we could not verify a reliable UK range for either.
How much does a DIY website builder cost a plumber?
Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace charge a monthly or annual subscription. Wix's plans page says "Prices and currency vary by location" (as of October 2026), so check the current UK price on each builder before you sign up.
On top of the plan, budget for:
- a domain name
- a business email address, if not included
- your time: writing every page, sourcing photos, learning the editor
- any paid apps for booking forms or reviews
When DIY makes sense: you are just starting, money is tight, and you are happy spending a few evenings on it. A clean one-page site with your services, areas, Gas Safe number if relevant, a few real photos and a big call button is far better than no site.
When it doesn't: you want to rank across several towns, or the site needs separate pages for boiler installs, bathrooms and emergency call-outs. That takes planning most DIY sites never get.
How much do trade website rental firms charge?
Several UK firms build and host websites for trades for a monthly fee. Two examples we checked, as of October 2026:
- Websites 4 Trades says "We charge a flat fee of £30 per month", covering design, hosting, support and updates, with the domain bought separately and owned by you.
- We Grow Trades lists its Foundation package at "£85 / month" with "No setup fees, ever", up to 8 custom pages, hosting, business email and Google Business Profile setup, and says there are no long-term contracts.
Rental can be good value, especially for cash flow. Before you sign, ask:
- Who owns the domain? It should be registered in your name.
- Who owns the website? If you leave, can you take the design, text and photos?
- What is the minimum term? And the notice period?
- What is the three-year cost? £85 a month is £3,060 over three years. Compare that with a one-off build plus hosting.
- What is included each month? Edits, new pages, SEO, reports?
How much does a freelancer charge for a plumbing website?
It varies too much to give a fair range. Freelancers range from students to very experienced designers, and quotes reflect that.
What matters more than the headline:
- A fixed, written quote. Not an hourly estimate.
- Who will host it, and what that costs each year.
- What happens if they are unavailable when your site breaks on a Friday afternoon.
- Whether they understand plumbing. A designer who knows the difference between a system boiler and a combi writes better service pages.

What should a plumber website price include?
Whichever route you take, compare like with like. A fair quote for a plumbing website should make clear whether each of these is included:
- Domain name registered in your name
- Hosting and how long it is paid for
- SSL certificate so the site shows the padlock
- Mobile design tested on real phones
- Click-to-call on every page
- Contact or quote form that sends to the right inbox
- Service pages for each main type of work
- Area pages for the towns you cover
- Your credentials shown properly: Gas Safe number, WaterSafe, MCS where relevant
- Basic SEO: page titles, descriptions and headings set up
- Google Business Profile link and consistent details
- Analytics and form tracking
- Training or handover so you know how to make small changes
- Support after launch and what it costs
If a quote is vague on any of these, ask before you sign. A low quote can turn out low because several of them are missing.
What actually makes a plumber website cost more?
The price goes up with the amount of thinking and building, not the colours.
Number of service pages
Boiler installs, servicing, bathrooms, drainage each need their own page
Number of area pages
Each town needs unique content, not copied text
Software connections
Booking forms or enquiry forms tied into Commusoft, Tradify, ServiceM8 and others
Photography and project galleries
Especially for bathroom and heat pump installers
Copywriting
Writing every page for you, in plain English
Tracking
Call tracking, form tracking, analytics set up properly
Content migration
Moving pages and keeping old URLs working on a redesign
When does a plumber not need to spend much?
Be honest with yourself here. A bigger website is not always the answer.
You probably don't need an expensive site if:
- You are fully booked from repeat customers and referrals. A simple site that confirms you are real and shows your Gas Safe number may be all you need.
- You subcontract almost all your work for builders or developers who already know you.
- You are testing the water before going self-employed full-time.
In those cases, a DIY site or a low-cost rental, plus a complete Google Business Profile, is a sensible start. Spend the difference on your van.
You probably do need a proper site if:
- you want more of a specific job type, like boiler installs or bathrooms
- you want to cover new towns
- you are paying a lot each month for leads from directories and lead sites
- your current site is slow, hard to use on a phone, or looks dated

How do you compare quotes fairly?
Put every quote into the same table:
- Upfront cost, including VAT
- Monthly cost
- Total cost over three years
- Number of pages and what's on them
- Who owns the domain and site
- Minimum term and notice
- What support is included after launch
That three-year total is the number that matters most. It turns "cheap monthly" and "expensive one-off" into the same currency.
Ready for a fixed quote?
We build websites only for plumbers and heating engineers in London and Essex. See plumbing website design for what's included, or plumber website redesign if you already have a site that isn't pulling its weight.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to get a plumber website?
A DIY website builder on a monthly plan, or a trade website rental. One trade web firm we checked charges £30 a month, as of October 2026. Cheap is fine to start, as long as you own your domain.
Is a monthly website rental a good deal for a plumber?
It can be for cash flow, since there is no big upfront cost. Check who owns the domain and the site if you leave, what the minimum term is, and how much you pay over three years compared with buying outright.
How long does it take to build a plumbing website?
Our builds typically take 2 to 6 weeks from a signed-off brief. Rental firms can be quicker because they work from templates; one we checked quotes 7 to 14 days.
Do I have to pay VAT on a plumber website?
If the web designer is VAT registered, yes, at the standard rate. Our website prices are quoted excluding VAT. If you are VAT registered yourself, ask your accountant about reclaiming it.
What ongoing costs does a plumber website have?
At minimum a domain name and hosting. Most plumbers also want backups, updates and small edits handled. Our care plan covers those for £50 a month with no minimum term.
